You just have to recognize that if you keep trying, those failures will pave the way to success - I have a very hard time remembering this for the most part, lol. And of course fleece-covered stirrup leathers.Ashleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04720090581233703530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1780912362953300892.post-55328809870592126312015-04-25T19:40:14.393-07:002015-04-25T19:40:14.393-07:00And happy rider? ;)

I even remarked to a friend I was spending the weekend with that, "My friend in AZ is doing her first 50k today! She's the main reason I've begun pursuing running more." to which the response was, "Wow. That's crazy! 50k?!" and I just grinned and nodded. Then, when I saw your update later, I remarked, "Oh no! She DNF'd at 27 miles." "Isn't that basically the whole thing?" *quick math* "Yeah, it is. Wow. Must have been an insane run. How awesome though...."

So you were definitely on my mind this weekend. =)

I understand your mental game post-race as my head works much the same way. I think you've got a good plan going forward, lay low and let your mind do its thing without antagonizing it with much else for a bit - or antagonizing your poor IT band! YIKES. Be easy, lady!

Congrats on such an oustanding achievement on such a gnarly course. Finish or no, it's definitely something to be proud of. Loved being able to follow along the journey and hear about how it went. I got a particular giggle about the hashers as they sound just like the ski hashers I know. Your retort about wasting good whisky was an oustanding one, as well. =)

I wish you a speedy IT band recovery and encourage you on in your stubbornness to pursue more awesome as time passes. Congrats again on running your farthest yet over some truly rough terrain!!Liz Stouthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18267806576736655184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1780912362953300892.post-47416662957973763952015-03-20T09:08:12.227-07:002015-03-20T09:08:12.227-07:00Heck yes woman, tell us some stories! I started my blog in 2011 for 2 reasons: Keep track of raising my first foal for myself AND put it all out there so people could read and benefit in some way, whether it's pretty pictures, a good story, or a Whoops on my part that if told could save them from the same. There are too many people out there willing to sell false sunshine, and so many others looking for a true common experience or a helping hand. Can't wait to read your stories! I love having the poles as a"visual" guideline, both for myself and the horse...really seems to help with straightness and evenness.

Excellent point on cross-training across disciplines...and that's so true! My riding, running, and some basic strength training all form a complementary trifecta of cross-training that all benefit each other.Ashleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04720090581233703530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1780912362953300892.post-64007050941846541672015-02-24T13:53:59.357-07:002015-02-24T13:53:59.357-07:00Future reference = when the ground thaws out? ;)Future reference = when the ground thaws out? ;)Ashleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04720090581233703530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1780912362953300892.post-62266683130198737992015-02-24T13:38:27.062-07:002015-02-24T13:38:27.062-07:00I loved this post Ashley! I've played with sev...I loved this post Ashley! I've played with several of these, both under saddle and on the lunge. The fan and staggered poles are two of my favorites! I've used the box as well. The possibilities are endless when you add lateral movement as well! : you can side pass around the box like they do in some trail obstacle classes; while staying within the confines of the box, walk forward down one long side, side pass parallel to a short side, back up up the other long side, side pass down the other short side. If you make the box big enough, you can do leg yield Xs across the box. There is soooo much you an do with it!

I think some of the best horse and rider partnerships are the ones that cross train, regardless of what main sport they have chosen. A lot of runners cross train to strengthen assisting muscles, whether the cross training is cycling, swimming or just basic strength training. It is the same for horses. A horse that can carry himself correctly and is supple and strong will have much longer-lasting soundness than one who only does one thing.

Thank you for this post!
